Modou Dia is a 49-year-old, husband, father of 5, and first-time peanut package farmer with myAgro in the village of Nguidile (Louga, Senegal).
Modou Dia has been a peanut farmer for a long time, but this year he decided to enroll to purchase myAgro’s fertilizer for his farm and feels satisfied with the result.
“I am delighted with my field this season, at first, I was reluctant because of the prices of the fertilizers but I ended up realizing that the fertilizers are of good quality,” he says.
This year, farmers in his area faced a disaster never known which was an infestation of worms. This greatly affected their fields in addition to the inconsistent rainfall that disrupted planting cycles, however, myAgro fertilizer played a major role in combating this problem.
“I believe that fertilizer played a great role in saving my field because when I put them on, the peanut looked beautiful and also worms stopped attacking them,” Modou says.
He also acknowledged the importance and uniqueness of the agricultural training he received from myAgro’s Impact and Training team in ensuring that he gets an excellent output.
“I participated in some training and they helped me to know the fertilizer spreading technique. Additionally, we learned how to microdose and the importance of the organic matter to our field. I think the spreading technique is quite different and more effective than what I knew.”
Modou feels that his farm was successful as compared to that of his neighbors who did not get a single peanut and will only be able to sell the groundnut straws.
“My field looks different from theirs,” he said. “In addition to the peanut, I will be able to sell the straws and make a double benefit.”
Modou hopes that the income from his harvest will provide for his needs and those of his family especially in sending his children to school and preparing them for the future.
