Dior Faye is a 35-year-old peanut farmer and mother of 8 from Toubatoul, Senegal who has been farming with myAgro since 2019. Before joining myAgro, Dior would go to the markets in Dakar in search of work. With a large family to feed children, Dior needed to make as much income as she could but that meant being away from home anywhere from 3 to 5 months at a time. Dior missed her family dearly while she was away but knew that she could not return until she had earned enough money to support them.
While working at the markets in the city, Dior met a Village Entrepreneur who introduced her to myAgro. The VE told Dior about myAgro inputs and the little-by-little payment method. She was intrigued and decided to join in hopes that it would increase her harvest and income so she could provide for her family, and after just one harvest with myAgro, she did just that.
Since joining myAgro, Dior’s life has drastically improved. Last season she was able to harvest 6 bags of peanuts from her ¼ hectare farm, whereas before myAgro she would only get 1 or 2 bags. With her harvest, she makes and sells oil and from that income, buys nutritious food, and saves money–which she has used to send 3 of her children to school.
Dior’s hope of staying close to her family while being able to provide for them has become a reality. With her harvests, her family is now food secure and Dior no longer has to leave them for months at a time to meet their needs because she can work near her house cultivating her land.
“With myAgro I can work on the farm, and I don’t need to go to Dakar and stay there to make enough money. The model makes it easy.”
“Now, because I get more yield, instead of traveling to the [capital city] market, I can just stay in the village and have my own business here,” says Dior. “There are big changes, now I can stay at home and watch my kids, and I can educate them how I want, thanks to myAgro. I’m really happy to be around my family.”
Awa, Dior’s 6-year-old daughter, is very excited to have her mother at home.
“Mom used to go to work for us, so she can bring food for us,” Awa said. “I like for mom to be around, and want to be just like her when I grow up!”
Dior’s investment in her family not only supports her in being there for them but gives her the opportunity to help them meet their goals. Awa wants to be a teacher when she grows up and with more harvest and an increase in income, Dior is gaining the resources she needs to help her children meet their goals.
Dior tells people in her village to quickly join, because, through her experience, she has seen firsthand that myAgro’s model works.
“You can be sure when myAgro promises something it will happen!” Dior says.
Dior is very hopeful and looks forward to the future. Next, she plans to help her husband save money so that they can build a concrete house.
