A myAgro Farmer Gives Back

“Because his harvest was so big he was able to give away 250 kg of corn to needy families in his village who have already exhausted their stocks.”

Fall is an important time of year for myAgro farmers. It is common for food supplies from the year before to run short as they wait for the current year’s harvest to be dried and stored for consumption. During this time, there are some families that have run out of food and are eagerly awaiting the harvest.

For one of our farmers, Dramane Coulibaly from Safe Coro this precarious time of year was an opportunity to help his fellow villagers. Dramane grew Sotubaka corn on a ½ hectare of land using the myAgro method and had a bumper harvest of close to 2 tons. During a visit to his home to estimate his harvest, he told our agents that because his harvest was so big he was able to give away 250kgs of corn to needy families who have already exhausted their stocks.

The generosity of Dramane Coulibaly is heart-warming. It also shows the downstream and often unanticipated impacts of increasing harvests. myAgro focuses on how our methods can improve the livelihoods and well-being of our farmers. What this example shows us is that when our farmers have bumper harvests the benefits can spread to others in the village community, even those not currently enrolled in myAgro’s programs, to help increase food security.
