Esther Luwongo is a mother, widow, and retired teacher turned farmer from the Mangaka Village in Tanzania. After retiring from her work, Esther was looking for a way to be able to continue to secure food and income for her family.
“I was so saddened by my low yields for so long that I chose to stop agriculture activities for a while,” she said. “When I first heard about myAgro from our Village Entrepreneur I became interested in knowing more, especially about having access to fertilizer, agriculture training, and timely delivery of inputs. This was exactly what I needed!” she told our team with a smile.
Esther decided to enroll with a 0.25 maize package so that she could experience how myAgro worked and the outcome surprised her.
“But that was a very wrong decision! My maize field looked so great that I wish I would have decided on a 1-acre package. Even with poor weather conditions in our area, the nearby fields cannot match my field.”
Esther said that myAgro’s model has helped her to afford the payments and ensures she can save while also working towards buying even more packages. She even plans to start a chicken farm with her savings!
“myAgro captured my attention also with the payment model and it was easy for me to do. I had ample time paying little by little through my phone. I will try other cash crops packages within myAgro such as sunflower. Now, I am sure to have food in my house since my field has so much. myAgro has now become my teacher—I learn modern agriculture and the use of technology!”
