“From my current harvest, I will save some seeds for next planting season and sell the rest. This will allow me to save money and take care of my family’s needs, such as food, school materials, and hospital bills,” Fama expressed.
Fama Gueye is a 35-year-old farmer and mother of nine from Kanel village in southern Senegal. Fama’s successful harvest this season has placed her in good stead to navigate the coming year and beyond, she hopes.
“This season’s harvest has been really good. From a quarter of a hectare with myAgro I cultivated 16 bags!”
Fama joined myAgro in February 2021 and initially struggled to complete payments due to global price increases. However, Fama is now delighted and is benefiting from her investment this season.
“I have already enrolled for my next season’s package. If farming keeps going like this, whatever I do in the future is going to be supported by my agricultural practice. Family events, bills, or ceremonies—all can be financed with the money I make from agriculture.”
Last year, Fama was unable to afford any healthcare services and struggled to accumulate the necessary funds to take her ill child to seek medical assistance. Hence why Fama now finds relief in knowing that she will have the money required for medical assistance if needed.
“This year I will be able to save some money for family emergencies,” Fama explains. “Before, it was hard. I used to plant 3-4 hectares and cultivated very little yield in return: 2 bags, maybe 3.”
Fama is now more motivated than ever to succeed, having experienced her first successful yield with myAgro. Moving forward, Fama plans to employ all the agricultural training she receives to continuously increase her yield.
“A considerable difference is seen when myAgro fertilizer is used properly. The field looks like it has been well treated; it looks right and properly lined up. At harvest time, the nuts will be better, they are bigger.”
