Mame Bassine Diop is a farmer and mother of 3 from Kew Ngatte, Kaolack. She has been a myAgro farmer for years, joining the organization through her women’s savings group. She had success as a farmer and was even able to build a house from her income. She then became a myAgro VE in 2021 after the VE in her village had to pull back from her work due to health complications.“
If she leaves, who would collect the payments?” She said. “We would have lost all the good quality products myAgro offers”.
So she stepped up for her village in order to keep the VE services available for her family and community. In less than a year, Mame has become a major part of the community as a myAgro VE. So much so that she said that people call her “Bassine Sama Mbey”.
She is passionate about helping the farmers in her community achieve their goals. Mame’s work has helped farmers in her community,–especially the women. She feels proud that the farmers she works with no longer have to take credit to get fertilizer and earn extra money.
“The most important thing for me is that farmers used to take credit from the bank or the other national programs. With myAgro, they don’t have to take credit.”
The income she makes through her work goes towards supporting her family and making sure her children have the supplies they need to stay in school and gain an education.“
With the help of God, we hope to continue. It is difficult in Senegal today to maintain a home and have a job. It is hard to find a job in the village. But there is nothing better than being able to see your family every day, and still have money.”
