Pic of the Week: Why these men are happy to lug 100 tons

100 tons of fertilizer getting delivered to myAgro’s warehouse in Bamako, ready to be redistributed to farmers for the 2014 planting season.

West Africa has the lowest rates of fertilizer consumption in the world and this drastically decreases agricultural yields. Many families cannot afford enough fertilizer for their fields; others order fertilizer only to have it arrive too late into the season. Fertilizer is also rarely delivered to rural villages, which means that farmers have to trek to regional centers to get their supplies.

All of these are reasons why these men were happy to stock fertilizer destined for our farmers weeks before planting is set to begin.
