According to Fortune, the global Moringa products market size was $7 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow to $14.8 billion by 2028. These numbers not only show a growth in the demand for Moringa in the current years but a growing interest in this plant across different parts of the world.
What is Moringa?
Moringa oleifera, also known as drumstick tree, is a tree native to areas in India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. It is a fast-growing and drought-resistant tree full of vitamins and minerals, all of which help it thrive in poor conditions. What makes the moringa tree stand out is its various parts–the bark, fruit, root, leaves, flowers, and seeds–which can be used to make medicine and other products with health and medicinal benefits. Some sources mention that it can be used to alleviate illnesses such as diabetes, gastritis, and high blood pressure. While in some areas, it is solely used for nutrition in households.
Given the growing interest in the tree and the need to explore other options for sustainable agriculture, myAgro has launched a Moringa Pilot Project that will take place from April 2022 through December 2022, in partnership with Herou Alliance. Herou Alliance is a Mali-based enterprise involved in the production and commercialization of moringa products for local consumption and distribution. Our pilot will aim to deliver training and inputs for moringa cultivation to farmers. The project will be implemented in 25 villages in the Bancoumana area and myAgro offers two packages for farmers; the first package contains 15 plants, training, and follow-up, and the second package contains 20 seeds, training, and follow-up. These packages will directly impact 1000 myAgro farmers–creating the potential to positively impact the livelihood of over 8000 people in the target villages.
“The Moringa Pilot Project will increase the revenue of farmers through the selling of moringa leaves, enhance the health of the communities and provide nutrition for families and animals.”

With this pilot project, myAgro is keen to ensure that farmers are more resilient in the face of climate change as they will will have access to a resilient crop with a harvest that helps them have more opportunities to earn income outside of the traditional harvest season.
