Oumou Kone: A Moringa Farmer’s Journey to Success in Kirina, Mali
Mani Kamissoko, or Oumou Kone as she’s formally known, is a first-time Moringa farmer in the village of Kirina, Mali. Oumou’s farming journey began in 2015 with myAgro, and she decided to enroll in the Moringa Pilot Project package this year. Her hard work paid off when she made a profit of 7,000 FCFA, which helped her and her family immensely.
“I am delighted with the sale of my moringa; I made a profit of 7,000 FCFA,” Oumou exclaimed. “The profit helped me buy two school bags for my children; I supported my husband, who helps me take care of the plants; I also supported my brother and bought sugar for porridge.”
Oumou believes that the agricultural training she received from the agents was crucial to her success. She learned about the benefits of the Moringa plant and even won a bag of Moringa tea in a raffle organized by myAgro. “I participated in the training, and they helped me to know the benefits of Moringa, especially in the treatment of high blood pressure and diabetes,” Oumou shared. “I won a Moringa tea after the raffle and will be drinking it to keep myself fit.”
Oumou also commends the support she received from the field agents and the call center, which helped increase her motivation and ensure she got a good output. “The field agents and the calls I received from the call center helped me,” she said. “They visited my farm, and I also received calls asking about the progress of my plants and for advice on how to take care of them. This boosted my motivation and eventually made me have a good profit.”
As an inspiration to other farmers in her community, Oumou advises them to work with myAgro and enroll in their packages. “I always advise other people to enroll in myAgro packages as they will receive a lot of benefits, such as training and increased productivity,” she shared. “myAgro always assists through training and constant on-ground support. I plan to work with myAgro for a long time to continue to profit from my agricultural activities.”
