In the new myAgro district of Gossas in Senegal, field agent Aissatou has been surpassing all of her enrollment goals.
myAgro field agents and vendors use smart phones to enroll farmers via a custom-designed app. Thanks to the smartphones, field agents and vendors across Mali and Senegal are experiencing a much quicker, smoother, and more effective enrollment process.
“The work isn’t always easy,” Aissatou explains, but she has found the myAgro smartphone application to be a useful tool in enrolling farmers.
“Farmers have trust in the smartphones,” she explains, “the phones really encourage farmers to enroll. If you just write their information on paper, they fear you’ll lose it. But when you explain to them that their information is sent through the phones, they feel comfortable enrolling. One time an older woman said to me, ‘At first I was hesitant to give you my information, but when I saw how you use the phone, I knew it was safe so I decided to enroll.’”
